Ross Ariffin is a true Multi Award-Winning Composer. Born in 1962, making him a Water Tiger in the Chinese Horoscope was already composing at the tender age of 10 years old.Ross is also gifted with "perfect pitch". Around the same time Ross won a scholarship to London, United Kingdom to study pianoforte and violin under the wings of Professors from the Royal Academy and College of Music, London - Iuan Roberts ( piano ),Miss Eileen Brosster ( piano ) and British Composer Leslie Philips ( theory ) and Royal Philharmonic violinist Richard Kirkland.
Upon his return to Malaysia Ross was appointed Head of Piano & Violin at Hammond Academy of Music in Kuala Lumpur. In 1990, Ross Ariffin won first place at the National Level of the Asian Broadcasting Union Golden Kite World Song Festival in Kuala Lumpur with his composition "Ku Tolak Ke Tepi" ( "I put my past behind me" ).It was sung by Miss Liza Aziz with lyrics by renown lyricist Puan Habsah Hassan.His song went on to represent Malaysia at the International level gaining 5th place overall against 20 other nations worldwide.
In 1991, Ross was invited to co-produce a Charity Album with New Southern Records (NSR) for S.C.A.N. (Suspected Child Abuse And Neglect).The album included his song with veteran artist Rohana Jalil which was frequently aired on all channels in Malaysia.Ross also later co-produced a government sponsored charity album for BAKTI with his song sung by songstress Fauziah Latiff.
In 1993, Ross was nominated for two local Malaysian movie soundtracks for "Imigran" and "Fantasi".It was the first time in years that a local composer had been nominated for two movie soundtracks in the same festival.Both films competed against ten other film soundtracks at the 14th Malaysian Film festival held in Johor Bahru at the JB Pan Pacific Hotel. Ross came out tops with his soundtrack gem for "Fantasi".
In 1995, Ross with his immensely popular song for Ning Baizura "Kau Dan Aku" won the "Best Pop Rock Song" category with local boy group "Kool" singing it in TV3 Muzik-Muzik finals.The same song was featured for many months on TV for an official Nescafe advertisment.
In 1996, Ross recieved his first A.I.M.(Anugerah Industri Muzik Malaysia) award for being one of the Producers on Aishah's award winning album entitled "Wajah".Since then Ross has recieved a total of no less than 5 nominations up to the year 2001 when he left for Brunei Darussalam for the next three years.During his stay in Brunei,Ross was commissioned amongst other things to compose a special Birthday gift song for Her Majesty, The Raja Isteri of Brunei Darusslam in Sept 2004.
Ross returned to Malaysia in late 2004( September ) and got news from MACP Berhad via a Media Release from the United States that he and his wife,Helena Hon had reached the finals of the world's largest song writing competition amongst no less than 35,000 entries.The first Malaysians ever to reach the world finals since its inception with their song "A Kiss Goodnight ".
Ross has won to date 4 Malaysian music industry awards. Ross is married with two teenage children.
Ross will be performing at the Prince Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from Feb 2007 onwards.
